Hyundai has revealed the new Kona N which is a performance oriented version of the standard Kona. The SUV is set to be launched with a sporty N badged variant as the company announces its plan to expand its N and N-Line range to 18 models by the end of the year 2022.
In the international market, Hyundai Kona N is aimed to rival Ford Puma ST performance crossover which earlier had no direct rivals.
KONA N STYLING
The new Kona N gets its own unique styling, with lightweight 19-inch forged wheels, a unique grille treatment, red stripes along the bottom edges of the body, and two massive exhaust pipes at the rear bumper. Exterior changes include a new colour Sonic Blue, a variation on the Performance Blue in which the Veloster N is available. Inside, the Kona N gets an N-specific steering wheel, seats, interior trim, and performance information graphics for both the digital instrument panel and head-up display. The Kona N also gets Hyundai's all essential safety and driver-assistance features.
KONA N PERFORMANCE
The all new Hyundai Kona N is powered by a 2.0L four cylinder Turbocharged Petrol Engine which produces a maximum power of 280hp and 392Nm of torque with a front wheel drive and a 8 speed DCT gearbox. The 8 speed DCT gearbox offers three performance modes. The first, N Power Shift, which is engaged when accelerator input exceeds 90 percent. It compensates for any loss of torque during upshifts to provide a smoother acceleration. Second is the N Grin Shift, which provides a 20sec boost of maximum performance by instantly shifting down to the appropriate gear is best suited for performance. Hyundai says this mode will be especially be useful to make sudden overtakes on the highway and it can only be used every 40sec. The 3rd mode, N Track Sense Shift, is purely for track use, optimizing gear changes based on driver behaviour for quick lap times.
Will Hyundai Kona N come to India?
The company has not yet officially announced the plans of bringing their performance oriented Kona N into the Indian market. However, Hyundai India may introduce its N line of variants with the launch of i20 N line in the mid of 2021. Though it is worth mentioning that Hyundai Kona electric was revealed last year and the standard Kona did get some facelift updates.
